My Weight Loss Journey

Jacqui Hurcombe’s Weight Loss Journey: From Struggling with Infertility and Depression to a New Career as a Personal Trainer

When Jacqui Hurcombe’s husband gifted her personal training sessions for Christmas, she didn’t expect it to be the catalyst for a significant weight loss journey and a new career path. Jacqui, a mum of two from Barnt Green, had struggled with her weight for years, putting on six and a half stone while trying to start a family.

The added weight was taking a toll on her physical and mental health, and she was feeling low and depressed.

But the personal training sessions at a Bromsgrove gym gave Jacqui the push she needed to start making healthy changes in her life.

Jacqui’s weight had ballooned to 17 stone while trying to get pregnant, and she had turned to food as a coping mechanism during two failed rounds of IVF and a miscarriage.

After giving birth to her children, Jacqui was also diagnosed with kidney disease and told she couldn’t have any more children.

The added stress and disappointment led to further weight gain, and Jacqui felt like she had lost control of her body and her health.

But a few turning points in the autumn of 2018 helped Jacqui realize that she needed to make a change. When her three-year-old son saw her naked and asked why she had “two tummies,” Jacqui was shocked into action. And at a birthday party a few weeks later, someone mistook her for being pregnant and asked when she was due. These experiences were the wake-up call Jacqui needed to start working towards her weight loss goals.

With the help of her personal trainer, Jacqui lost one and a half stone during her initial sessions at the gym. Her goal was to lose 40 lbs by her 40th birthday, but she ended up exceeding that goal, losing 43 lbs by the time she turned 40. And by November 2020, Jacqui had lost a total of 97 lbs.

Jacqui’s weight loss journey didn’t stop during the COVID-19 pandemic. When her gym closed, she continued exercising at home with just dumbbells and a step, and her children even served as her personal trainers. Jacqui also made healthier food choices, cooking more at home and avoiding takeout or dining out.

Jacqui’s weight loss journey also led to a new career path. She decided to retrain as a personal trainer and launched her own business, The Body Tracker, which offers online and in-person personal training, primarily for women. With 43 online clients, Jacqui is helping other women achieve their own health and fitness goals.

Jacqui’s journey is an inspiration to anyone who has struggled with their weight and their health. It’s not always easy to make lifestyle changes and lose weight, but with determination and support, it is possible to achieve significant results and improve overall physical and mental well-being. If you’re looking to make a change in your own life, consider working with a personal trainer or joining a support group to help you achieve your goals.

It’s great that Jacqui was able to turn her personal struggle with weight gain into a new career helping others. It’s not uncommon for people to gain weight during the process of trying to start a family, as hormonal changes and other factors can contribute to weight gain. It’s important for individuals to be mindful of their own health and to seek support if they need it, whether that be through personal training sessions, a support group, or other resources. It’s also important to remember that weight is just one aspect of overall health and well-being, and it’s important to focus on a holistic approach to self-care.
